Peanut Intolerance: They're everywhere, here's how to avoid them | Allergy Test Australia

So, you have just received your test results from Allergy Test Australia and you have discovered that you have a peanut intolerance. No dramas, we are here to help!  This article will help you on your way on how to be more aware and live a peanut free life in Australia!

Peanuts are legumes and grow underground.  When you think of peanuts the first thing that most likely comes to mind is that peanut butter you spread on your toast every morning (or is it marmite?).

If you have an intolerance to nuts, your body produces an inflammatory response to one or more of the nut proteins.  Please be aware that a nut intolerance is very different to a nut allergy.  If you have an allergy, you may feel unwell nearly immediately after consumption, which often requires medical attention.  If you have an intolerance, the reaction may be delayed and less severe.

Symptoms of Peanut Intolerance

The symptoms experienced by individuals who have a peanut intolerance include:

  • Stomach pain or cramps
  • Flatulence
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea

Peanuts can be added to foods so please be careful when shopping and always check the label. We recommend that you avoid the following foods:

  • Peanut butter
  • Peanut oil
  • Peanut flour
  • Flavoured nuts
  • Satay

The list goes on, so we have provided a link below of unsafe foods.

  2. Hummus – Low in saturated fat and packed full of protein! You will be full until lunch.
  3. Olive Oil – I’m sure you have heard of the Mediterranean diet, enough said!
  4. Low Fat Cottage Cheese – Add a few tomatoes, salt and pepper and your taste buds will be happy!
